Spetses (‘spet-says’) stems from my inclination toward beauty and its numerous expressions. Under the name Sai Shiroyama, I pursue solitary creative activities, including writing and photography.
As a writer, I explore how beauty manifests itself through words, in English and Japanese. I am specifically taken by how they offer a way of seeing. In this context, I write, in particular, about elegance – a matter of choice. These considerations have informed matters of attire, public presence, and artistic design. I am currently preparing a manuscript that brings these expressions into coherence.
In photography, I am primarily interested in nature photography, with a focus on capturing scenes that convey a sense of tranquility.
Alongside the artistic endeavours, I am a legal researcher by training, with academic foundation in international law from Leiden, Utrecht, Edinburgh, and Cambridge (Trinity College).
I am currently based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
